Try a Digital Micro-Detox Before Fall Hits

Small, screen-free resets for solo adventurers, couples, and families alike.

Before the schedules get packed and the inbox fills back up, August is your window to try something refreshingly simple: a Micro-Detox.

No need to toss your phone into the lake—just make a few small changes that help you log off a little earlier, scroll a little less, and soak up the last of summer in real life.

Here are five easy ways to unplug, unwind, and reconnect (without going off the grid):

1. No Phones After 8
Whether it’s a family game night, a quiet dinner with your partner, or a solo reading session, putting the screens away early can lead to better sleep and more meaningful evenings.

2. Go on a GPS-Free Adventure
Choose a destination and get there the old-fashioned way—printed directions, road signs, or a paper map. It’s part digital break, part fun challenge
(and usually good for a laugh or two).

3. Host a Screen-Free Happy Hour
Invite a few friends over and ban the phones for the night. Break out the cards, puzzles, or a fun cocktail/mocktail setup. Great conversation guaranteed.

4. Rediscover Your Solo Joys
Remember hobbies you loved before scrolling took over? Painting, puzzling, journaling, reading, organizing your vinyl—your brain will thank you for revisiting them.

5. Make a Real-Life Summer Scrapbook
Print out photos, paste in ticket stubs or notes from the season, and make a mini memory book. Whether you’re 9 or 90, there’s something grounding about holding your memories in your hands.

Whether you’re a parent, a couple, or a party of one…

A Micro-Detox is your chance to slow down, unplug a little, and savor what’s left of summer—on your terms.
